I just read all the comments : I don't know what to add more! The film is a little gem : actors magnificent in every sense of the word, a story of love and humor that leaves a lasting memory (I saw the film very young - thanks to the film midnight of the 3rd string!!) and it's always stayed in my memory, having the dvd allowed me to review it several times, always with as much pleasure and wonder), the black-and-white sublime (if that is possible!) the perfect Gene Tierney, Rex Harrison is masterful in this role, the realization is impeccable, and J. Splendid. Wow! 4h film, but that's worth it! Robert De Niro once again incredible, and the soundtrack by Morricone is also perfect! With this film, it reminds us why we love cinema! On the set of the film the Master has been perfectly restored, but in scenes that are dark are often noticed tiny white dots, which were eventually used to it, even if in 3 or 4 scenes of these "points" are more visible. The only default "residual" on the Master that I have noticed is around 48 MIN 50 S, when the Bus of the orchestra arrives at the hotel in Florida, a thin vertical band of black appears on the right side of the image and then disappears at the end of this short sequence. The Definition is solid with a beautiful Dive, and the management of contrasts is excellent. The Black and White image provides a rich gradient of shades that are solid, and the level of detail is very high, either for the scenery, props, or costumes. The contours are well resolved. A light grain Film original has been retained. A nice three-dimensional aspect is present throughout the film, particularly in the scenes that day. The Audio Track in English DTS-HD Master Audio 5. 1 is nice but lack of spatialization, Audio Track English DTS 5. 1 shows, very front, and rather narrow, if the rendering of the diadoques is correct, the environments and music are very much in retreat. The level of black is good overall and everything remains fairly consistent : to summarize, we could hope for better, but the result is still correct and covers probably the DVD. very nice old movie with the promising start of the great louis de funès in the second role and a great actor of time to see and review. What to say about the film that hasn't already been said? Rightly regarded as the pinnacle of the work of Ford, yet not stingy with masterpieces, and always the same slap after fifty years : John Wayne imperial, Natalie Wood gorgeous (but this is a pleonasm), in the service of a story as old as the world, filmed with the tenderness habitual of the old Ford. Special Mention to the excellent print used for the DVD (the film was re-shot a few years ago from the original negative), light years ahead of the version with colors washed out that has long haunted the screens of tv. Rare thing for this type of DVD, the bonus features are sort of time, since it is saynettes advertising office of "making of"! One star less for the presentation a little cheap (box of cardboard clipped, design terrible), not really worthy of the content... :).
